Disco Ducks

Lots and lots of glitter in the past week.  I'm covered in it.  All because of our Disco Duck workshops which have been enormous fun and not just for us, I hope!  Take an ordinary bath duck, add glitter, sequins, jewels and what do you get - a Disco Duck.  As more and more ducks are customised they will be assembled at the East Wing of The Boating Pool in Ramsgate.  Over the Bank Holiday weekend, if you haven't made one already, then do pop in and make your own duck.  On 30th at 5pm, all the ducks will be put into the pool for our giant Hook-a-Disco-Duck competition.  There will be a £50 cash prize for the person that hooks the winning duck.  Well, I'm off to bed as there's another workshop first thing in the morning.

Posters, programmes and flyers

Well, on a boiling hot afternoon, with Ramsgate packed to the gunwales, a few of us accompanied the Mayor of Ramsgate, Councillor David Green and his wife as they took part in the annual Ramsgate Carnival.  Whilst David and Liz enjoyed their ride in a beautiful vintage car, we skipped about handing out A Summer Squall flyers to the huge crowds that lined the processional route.  We were delighted that a good number of people knew or had heard of Ramsgate Arts and everyone seemed pleased that there were things going on in the town over the summer.

The full programme itself is printed and you can get a copy either at the Visitors' Centre in the Custom House on Harbour Parade or you can download it on the website here (from the home page).

Ben Parry

Ben Parry is working on his ideas for the public piece of art that we have commissioned for A Summer Squall.  We don't want to give too much away but he is going to be working with a particular community within the town, learning from them about their work and life in Ramsgate and from this Ben is going to be developing an installation piece.  All sounds very exciting and we'll be keeping you posted on when and where you will be able to see what comes out of this exciting collaboration between artist and community.

Take Art Take Pride

Just a quick mention as there are details of this last event elsewhere on the website.  It was great though, maybe the best yet and there are some great photos and videos of the event - here, on Facebook and on youtube.  Once again, a big, big thank you to all participants.
